The Hughes Springs, Texas community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Bryson Belk, who died in a car accident on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. He was 19 years old. His sudden passing has left family members, friends, teammates, coaches, church members, and residents of the community devastated.
Bryson was widely known for his athletic ability, leadership, and dedication to helping others. Those who knew him say he made a lasting impact both on and off the field, earning respect for his character as much as for his athletic talent.
A proud graduate of Hughes Springs High School, Bryson excelled in multiple sports and became a standout member of the school’s athletic programs. As a varsity football player for the Hughes Springs Mustangs, he wore jersey number 7 and was recognized for his determination, strength, and competitive spirit. Standing 6-foot-1 and weighing 206 pounds, he was regarded as a committed and disciplined athlete.
His athletic contributions extended beyond football. Bryson also played varsity basketball, wearing jersey number 24, and participated in the varsity baseball program from 2022 through 2025. His versatility and dedication made him a valued teammate across all three sports.
After graduating, Bryson continued his education at Tyler Junior College, carrying forward the same drive and commitment that defined his high school career.
According to the Hughes Springs Youth Sports Association, Bryson’s love for sports began early in life. He played Little League baseball for many years, developing a passion for the game that remained with him throughout his life. Even after advancing beyond youth sports, he continued to stay involved in the athletic community.
Rather than stepping away from the field, Bryson chose to give back. He served as an umpire and youth coach, mentoring younger athletes and helping them build both skill and confidence. Those who worked with him describe him as deeply invested in the development of the next generation of players.
Community members remember Bryson as far more than an athlete. The Hughes Springs Youth Sports Association described him as someone who made a meaningful and lasting impact on both young players and adults throughout the community. Whether coaching, officiating, competing, or encouraging others, he consistently served as a positive influence.
Friends and mentors say Bryson’s kindness and leadership extended well beyond sports. He built strong relationships, supported younger athletes, and remained committed to uplifting those around him. His influence was felt far beyond the playing field.
In a tribute, the association wrote: “A great player has been called home, and his final inning has been played. He has traded the baseball diamond for fields of glory.”
The First Baptist Church of Hughes Springs also expressed condolences, asking the congregation to keep the Belk family in their prayers during this difficult time. Church members shared messages of faith, comfort, and hope while acknowledging the deep grief felt throughout the community.
Though only 19 years old, Bryson Belk left behind a legacy of leadership, service, and dedication to others. His involvement in sports, mentorship, and community life touched countless individuals who will remember him for his character, kindness, and encouragement.
As Hughes Springs comes together to mourn his passing, family, friends, teammates, and community members are honoring a young life marked by purpose, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.
