According to the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred at approximately 4:18 p.m. about one-half mile north of the Lawrence–Crawford County line. Investigators reported that a southbound 2014 Chevrolet Impala driven by Kaden Meek crossed the center line for reasons that remain under investigation before colliding head-on with a northbound 2019 Ford Fusion driven by Braden Doersam.
Emergency personnel from multiple agencies responded to the scene, including the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office, Crawford County Rescue, Flat Rock Area Fire Protection District, the Illinois Department of Transportation, and the Illinois State Police. Despite the rapid response and lifesaving efforts of first responders, both men ultimately succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.
Authorities confirmed that Braden Doersam was pronounced deceased at the scene. Kaden Meek was transported to a medical facility in critical condition but later died from his injuries. The Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit continues to assist with the investigation as officials work to determine the factors that contributed to the crash.
