According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred north of Hereford near Farm-to-Market Road 1057. Preliminary reports indicate that a 2021 Hyundai Accent collided with the rear of a semi-truck as the truck was attempting to turn onto the roadway.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene; however, Gilbert Olivarez sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced deceased at the location of the crash. Authorities reported that the driver of the semi-truck was not injured during the incident.
